Vienna know-how

264,000 square metres
around 760 employees
513 trams
500 buses
628 underground cars
35th anniversary

Wiener Linien’s main workshop in the 11th District has been responsible for the safety, serviceability and general condition of every vehicle owned by Wiener Linien for around 35 years. Now it is being renovated and modernised in line with the latest technological standards to ensure that it can continue to meet the requirements placed on it.

The main workshop covers an area of 264,000 square metres – the equivalent of approximately 38 football pitches. The workshop was opened on 29 May 1974 and, since then, its 760 employees have been servicing around 500 buses, 513 trams and 628 underground cars year after year. There is nothing that cannot or has not been done in the workshop: from general inspections of trains, during which the cars are stripped down to the metal frame, replacing defective doors to fitting the interior of newly ordered buses. Even third-party companies are happy to be able to call on the knowledge and experience of Wiener Linien technicians.
