COSO

COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission) is a voluntary private sector organisation in the USA which aims to help qualitatively improve financial reporting by means of ethical action, effective internal controls and good corporate governance.

EBT is the abbreviation for earnings before tax (also referred to as the result of ordinary activities). It is calculated as follows:
operating result (EBIT) -/+ financial result = EBT.

ESYS

The ESYS (Energiesysteme für Tunnelthermie®) project is an important step in the area of geothermal research. Its twin functions as a construction component and heat exchanger make it possible to exploit geothermal energy in man-made tunnels. This concept was used during the project to extend the U2 underground line. This technology allows geothermal energy to be used to environmentally sensitively regulate the temperature in underground stations.

Kilometres operated

A unit of measurement for the distance (in kilometres) operated by underground trains, trams and buses during scheduled operations.

KliP Wien

KliP Wien is the abbreviation for the climate protection programme of the City of Vienna. The city has set itself the objective of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. This programme is also intended to provide economic stimuli and to contribute towards maintaining the high quality of life enjoyed in Vienna.

Modal split

Also known as the modal share, the modal split is used in transport statistics to refer to the breakdown of different means (modi) of transport. Another common term used here is mode choice. The modal split is the result of the mobility behaviour of people and the commercial decisions of companies, on the one hand, and the range of transport options available, on the other.

NightLine

NightLine is the night-time network of bus services operated by Wiener Linien in Vienna which acts as a replacement for underground, tram and normal bus services. The NightLine services operate at 30-minute intervals between 00:30 and 05:00. The most important service connections are located on the inner ring road of Vienna.

ÖBB

Austrian Federal Railways (Österreichischen Bundesbahnen, ÖBB) was established on 5 August 1947 from the then Österreichischen Staatseisenbahnen. The abbreviation ÖBB was introduced in 1953 at the same time as the new system for numbering locomotives.

ÖPNV

A German-language abbreviation (Öffentlicher Personennahverkehr) used as a means of differentiating local public transport services from long-distance, cargo and individual transport.

Passenger kilometres transported is a unit of measurement for public transportation. It refers to the total of all passenger carrying capacity offered by a transport provider on a particular route travelled using a specific means of transport. No account is taken of whether these services are used or not.

Risk management

Risk management refers to the systematic reporting and assessment of risks as well as the management of responses to identified risks. Risk management is a systematic procedure used in many different areas such corporate risk, credit risk, financial investment risk, environmental risk, insurance risk and technical risk.

UITP

The UITP is the international association of public transport (French: Union Internationale des Transports Publics) with head offices in Brussels. The member organisations originate from more than 90 countries. The UITP is organised on the basis of transport providers, supplier industries, public agencies and transport researchers. The activities of the UITP include, among others, regular forums, working groups and publications. The UITP also cooperates with the United Nations, World Bank and institutions of the European Union.

ULF

ULF is the abbreviation for ultra low floor and refers to the technology associated with low-floor vehicles (mainly trams). The ULF developed for the tramway network of Wiener Linien is currently the tram with the lowest boarding height in the world.

VOR

The Eastern Transport Association (VOR) is the oldest transport association in Austria.
